What a Privilege!

I am speaking at the next meeting of the Oakville Stitchery Guild, on Monday, April 26. My topic is Cracked Paper Quilts.

What a privilege, both because I do not consider myself a bona fide stitcher (I really only have half a dozen stitches in my repertoire) and because it takes place at the spectacular Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre, home of the irrepressible founder Sybil Rampen.

Sybil Calverley Rampen, of Hell’s Grannies infamy, has been an outside-the-box artist for decades. Just ask those who have been fortunate enough to romp through one of her workshops (myself included). Sybil has attitude, and demonstrates daily how to vigorously imbibe every drop the cup of life offers. She also happens to be an octogenarian.

As Sybil says:

I work with nature and invent techniques as the messages evolve. Life is a mystery and human ingenuity ongoing. Each piece is a challenge waiting to be solved, suspended in each precious moment.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

On the Joshua Creek site you’ll also find the video Courage (Come Out to Play), featuring a song by Justin Hines.

It is fitting that this video was filmed at Sybil’s place. Her courage to come out to play, any time, anywhere, has been an inspiration to more women than she can possibly imagine. And Sybil has a BIG imagination.
