Carol Wiebe
The Person You Know You Are Inside
Life is full when you have so much on the go that you don’t get around to writing on your blog.
I hear someone muttering: “C’mon, Carol, you can always find time to post.” Was that you, Flora?
Yesterday I read Mary Buchanan’s April offering. She had not posted for about 2 months. Did I notice her lack of posting before she pointed it out? No. That is not a reflection on Mary, but has to do with my focus on my own art making, writing, speaking etc. But Mary really caught my attention with these sentences:
I guess you reach a point, eventually, when you just want to be the person you know you are inside. Not all the different people others know- the person YOU know. I know a lot of things about myself- good and bad, nice and not so nice. And I want to take my time in this season coming up to BE. I want to take my time reading a book and knitting a sweater. I want to start 20 projects and finish them little by little. I want to spend hours on the beach just watching the waves. I want to SLOW DOWN and not feel driven by the lists I make in my head. I want to putter. In the house, in my studio, in the garden. If the Master List Of Things That Need To Be Done gets items scratched off or checked- good. If it doesn’t happen- it doesn’t happen.
I agree, Mary. Those who are continually trying to be and do what they think others expect of them, lose themselves. And that is our major assignment, I believe, to figure out who we are and what we want to do with our one wild and precious life. Mary is intent on figuring out what SHE wants, and I salute her for it.
If we let others dictate what we should do, and how we should do it, we soon lack energy & inspiration because our own needs and passions are stifled. Manifestation of our dreams takes intent and commitment. No-one else can do that for us.
I am off in the wee early hours to Southampton to Artit with Jeane Myers (and whoever else shows up) for five glorious days. I definitely have a painter inside, and she is going to be in her element for the next week.
I will also meet Sharon Barfoot, whose ideas and artwork fascinate me. These days, where so many of our contacts are virtual, meeting a few of them in person causes a great quickening of the senses. Hopefully, I’ll be able to settle down and do some actual painting.
Tee, hee.
