Poised to Take the Plunge

This month, I end my journey as a school teacher and embark, with full sails flying, on my full-time artist life.

I have dreamed of being a full-time artist since I was old enough to know what that meant, and am finally poised to take the plunge.

Throughout my life, I succumbed to the conventional wisdom that you can’t make a living as an artist. What conventional wisdom doesn’t tell you is that you must really watch out for soul death if you don’t let that inner artist out often enough.

It didn’t matter how busy things got in the work-a-day world, I kept making art.

I knew my life depended on it. Art kept me sane.

Journey’s End

Well, as sane as I’ll ever be.
