Life Is Seldom Static
Those smooth, wide open highways ~ the ones with big shoulders and clear white lines ~ seem made to travel in style. On that kind of road, you feel as if the way is clear, as if you were meant to take it.
But the bumpy roads, with narrow gravel shoulders and potholes ~ lots of potholes ~ what do you do when you hit those? Are you suddenly uncertain, ready to throw the map (or GPS) out the window? Doubt flares. Perhaps you were wrong about thinking this was the way to go.
Maybe not knowing where to go, just following the road and seeing what comes up, dealing with whatever happens, learning from everything that comes along, is not such a bad way to live.
When we’re advised to enjoy the journey, it’s just another way of saying that we should enjoy life, because life is seldom static.
Potholes
There are, in fact, those who think it’s a good thing to have no idea where we’re going. At least for a while.
It may be when we no longer know what to do, we have come to our real work, and that when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun our real journey. …………..~ Wendell Berry
