Deborah Kruger is Flourishing
I recently viewed the work of Deborah Kruger, who “has invented a unique blend of fiber and encaustic. Although these materials are rarely seen together, Kruger has paired them to create a body of work that is both contemporary and archetypal.”
Perusing the reviews of her work, my favorite was one from the Greenfield Recorder:
Working in wax, resin and pigment, applied to neatly cut slices of colorful fabric, Kruger’s fascination with the basic geometry of the triangular form yields a visceral projection of feminine energy that is erotically charged and a marvel of multi-layered design.
Kruger has found a powerful way to express herself, which she attributes to the fact that it is “indigenous to my inner homeland, a place of solitude, speculation and passion.” But she is not content to simply do her own work. She facilitates other artists to embrace their “inner homelands.” To that end, she has developed a workshop called “FLOURISHING: Making Your Art and Life More Successful.” And how does she define success?
Success means allowing your life to be governed by the conviction that your art matters. The prime focus of the workshop is getting you on track with your creativity.
Kruger has even bigger goals. She longs “to live in a culture where there is a healthier balance of survival and creativity and where making art is central to daily life.” She is active in making that happen. Her life, art, and “flourishing” workshops are all imbued with passionate and articulate purpose. They form a powerful model that others will recognize as authentic, and be inspired to integrate into their own lives.
