Art As a Playground
A Creative Life. Art is what saved her from continuing down a former path of working at meaningless and unfulfilling jobs (see Humana Maelstrom Zine). If she is not expressing herself through art, Mary Ann becomes unhappy. Fortunately for us, Mary Ann was awake enough to realize this and attend to her own needs. In doing so, she has met the needs of many others who recognize, and respond to, the spirit that permeates her work.
Believe me when I say that I have experienced the emptiness of the state where my hands were unable to express the creativity of my mind, due to the mistaken belief that I did not deserve, and couldn’t achieve, happiness. I, too, have learned to cultivate my own joy by making sure I make art.
Mary Ann freely admits she is “not a planner.” In fact, and I imagine a certain light in her eyes when she verbalizes this, she insists that “there is no rhyme or reason to what I do. Art is my playground.”
Another playground, or part of the same amusement park, is reading books that she finds spiritually comforting and enlightening. Generally, Mary Ann keeps the insights she garners to herself, preferring to share what she has learned by living it.
In whatever vocation or pattern of life you may be, make it sublime by linking it with the Spirit. ………….— Swami Amar Jyoti
Joy Ride ~ by Mary Anne Wakeley
True to her beliefs, Mary Ann gifts her works, periodically, as random acts of kindness. If you have not been fortunate enough to receive an RAK, you can assuage your appetite by consuming images of her paintings on MaryAnnWakeley.com or by purchasing her book. A number of galleries afford the opportunity to view the originals.
On Fine Art America, Mary Anne is described as an artist who employs mixed media to paint and draw feelings.
Relying on her intuitive ability, she trusts that what comes through in her art is what needs to come through. Her methods and styles progress yet circle back and come forward again in a new way, giving a sense that she is drawing on some past experience but is presenting it anew. This is not an artist who stays stuck in a moment. Key themes are harmony, understanding, transformation and progression. A lover of nature, and beautiful and mysterious things, Mary Ann takes inspiration from music and ideas researched through her pursuit of higher knowledge.
Jump onto Flickr, and you will find Mary Ann taking up a good deal of well-deserved real estate, along with descriptions of her art such as “exquisite, eloquent, exceptional.” Her own flickr site is rife with comments of those who appreciate the authenticity of who she is and what she does.
P.S. One of Mary Ann’s latest RAKs is the creation of a website for Diane Kramer, a mutual friend, who also remains true to her heart in all her work in such a way that you cannot help but be touched by it. It is no surprise that these two found each other.
