    In the Company of Artists

Spring is close enough to taste, and to celebrate, I am off to party, as only artists can, with a group of women ~ at Sand Lake, near Elgin, Ontario. Good food, drinks and art supplies. Oh, and good company, of course. Very good company. Spring Approaches For winter’s rains and ruins are over, And all the season of snows and sins; The days dividing lover and lover, The light that loses, the night that wins; And time remembered is grief forgotten, And frosts are slain and flow

Open Your Hands to the World

. Love Knot It’s too easy to just play it safe, to try and keep things quiet and serene. The spirit feels caged by such an attitude. Mary Oliver understands this. Spring This morning two birds fell down the side of the maple tree like a tuft of fire a wheel of fire a love knot out of control as they plunged through the air pressed against each other and I thought how I meant to live a quiet life how I meant to live a life of mildness and meditation tapping the careful

Update on the Barfoot Yupo Workshop

The first day consisted of getting used to Yupo and how it reacts to various materials. It was a challenge, but Zappha was up to it ~ guiding us, making suggestions, showing us demonstrations. I made these two pieces: Life Springs Forth Well Worn Glory #workshop #Southampton #glory #spring #flowers #Yupo #SharonBarfoot

    My Favorite of the Four

I painted 4 little paintings last week. I should say that they are painting starts ~ that would be more accurate. This is my favorite one: Burst of Spring Tomorrow I’ll share some of the digital byproducts. #painting #paintingstart #burst #CWWOL20110411 #spring

As easy as falling off a log

Last night I tried a number of times to write a post, but WordPress was having difficulties and I couldn’t access my blogs. That is a first in my experience. Therefore, I am writing this on Wednesday morning and setting the date for yesterday. I also made a backup of my blogs (Tools, Export, Download export file to the folder of your choice). I have been much smarter with Carol Wiebe Wonders Out Loud than I was with Silverspring Studio (where I cut my blog teeth) in that I ha

    Spring Is Hastening in Hastings

We are staying in a cabin outside of Hastings, Ontario, where spring is ready to burst at the seams.  Ice and snow are melting on gravel roads, causing them to ooze with mud. We also witnessed ice floes ~surface ice that had broken free~grind over buoys on Rice Lake. (No photos of that, drat!) The frozen morning puddles, and last year’s leaves and branches melding with the mud, mesmerize me. The trees add subtle, soft-edged shadows into the visual mix. The broken branch has f

We Must Be Hatched or Go Bad

I am continuing with my gelatin print obsession. As I stated in my last post, I created my first ever gelatin plate prints.  I used the theme of eggs as an entry point into the following associations: ovum, spring, new life, embryo, protective covering, nest, ovoid. All Your Eggs in One Basket 2 Egg Idioms: Egged: to throw eggs (or insults) at. A good egg: a good person. Egging someone on: inciting someone to do something. Egg on your face: humiliation Lay an egg: fail at som

    A~B~C~Dream!

I just completed a new paper quilt, and when you look at the colors, you can see that I am longing  for spring. The dimensions are 23.5″ (h) by 17.5″ (w). A~B~C~Dream Dreams are a door into a whole different world of sensory (and extrasensory) experience. It seems like pure nonsense if you apply the rules of the waking world. However, if you accept the freedom of the dreamworld, you may even be able to bring some of its magic back with you. #ABC #dreams #longing #spring
