    Magic In the Trees

. I caught the first snow in the trees outside the window where I work. Caught it with my camera, of course–did you think I went out and tasted it? Caught it on my tongue? I’ll admit I was tempted. There's Magic in the Trees (1) By using a painting I had done previously as a layer (and playing with colors and transparencies), I was able to bring out some extra magic in the trees. Stark but striking

I can’t say why this caught my eye, except that I love the look of a stark winter plant against the snow, and the railing added more graphic detail. Bushes behind the railing Using a gradient map seems to turn the snow into a flow of water: Bushes behind the railing 2 Bushes behind the railing 3 I like it better toned down a little. #snow #CWWOL20110303a #railing #CWWOL20110303c #bushes #CWWOL20110303b

    Obstructed View

We have a beautiful gate at the entrance of our back yard, created for us by a very talented friend. I looked out the window a few days ago, and saw snow hugging the beautiful lines of the gate. It was a stunning graphic effect, begging to be captured in a photo. But even as I took the photograph, I knew those lines were obscured by the “interference” of other objects. I couldn’t hold up a sheet behind it to block out everything but the gate–my arm just isn’t long enough. Sno

    I am on a deadline . . .

I have today, tomorrow and Monday to finish a paper quilt. Of course, I need a little time off, just to stay sane and not over obsess. Yesterday’s snow pic provided a welcome diversion, playing for a while in Photoshop Elements (my game of choice). Snowy footsteps on the patio 01 Snowy footprints on the patio 02 I am NOT finished with these. #snow #patio #footprints #deadline #CWWOL20110226a #CWWOL20110226b

    More lacy snow patterns

The footprints in the snow  just outside our back door called to me: Snowy footprints on the patio I was attracted to the grid aspect, the marks made by boots, the soft mounds of snow. This will be a great beginning for playing in Photoshop Elements, as I am crazy about geometric designs. There was a time when symmetry was considered the closest a form could come to perfection. Most of us still prefer a symmetrical body, especially the face, even though our faces do not reall

Finding my way, again, I think

This came from the ice shards and plant photos. I think. Or, it came from my Finding Your Way painting. Good grief, I’m not sure! Maybe I am working too fast  😀 I do know for sure that I am using turquoise and orange again. This are a favorite combination: I have a predilection for mandala designs in those colors. Love Cornered

I put together 2 pics I took today: one of shards of icicles in the snow, the other a plant . Winter plants are so stark, seem to stand so bravely against the snow. A few layers later, this emerged. The heart heading into the corner spoke to me: don’t our hearts sometimes feel that way? Cornered? And yet, we always have the choice of who and what to love. Don’t we? Love Cornered #snow #plants #winter #cornered #icicles #CWWOL20110207 #heart #stark #brave

I Ponder What to Do with the Daily Design Papers

I will probably have to start another blog, or these daily design papers will take over this one. That’s what Jane Dunnewold did (smart). Here is today’s offering: Photo The berries and leaves have a lacy, delicate look on the snow. Their random placement is pleasing, as are the gradations of white to blue.
