    Rethink the Pattern

Your emotions keep pooling in certain patterns, until you finally see the Rorschach blots and figure out, Oh, that’s why I am feeling this way! Now, you can rethink the pattern. Rorschach H20 Reality is only a Rorschach ink-blot, you know. ………..~ Alan Watts #AlanWatts #CWWOL20120312 #pattern #Rorschach #patterns #pooling #reality #emotions #rethink

We Don’t Know Where It Comes From

Creativity gives new forms, new patterns, new ideas, new art forms. And we don’t know where creativity comes from. Is it inspired from above? Welling up from below? Picked up from the air? What? Creativity is a mystery wherever you encounter it. ……….~ Rupert Sheldrake Creativity Is a Mystery We don’t know where it comes from, but we are ecstatic when it comes. #ideas #mystery #RupertSheldrake #patterns #creativity #ecstasy #ecstatic #encounter

    A Useful Exercise

I took the painting Suspended and made a little “value map” of it. I did it with quick, inaccurate strokes and  a light, dark and medium value. Suspended Suspended value map 1 I fiddled with it a bit. Suspended value map 2 Then I combined some multiples of version 2, and called it “Row Houses.” Row Houses I like the energy and simplicity of these 3 “maps.” I can see using them as an underpainting and exploring with other colors on top of them. Or I could translate the 3 value

    Anne Bagby

I just received the Anne Bagby DVD entitled COLLAGE: Paper, Patterns & Glazing from Creative Catalyst Productions. Oh, honey, my head is spinning with possibilities. I can hardly walk or think straight. Perhaps after I’ve made a few pieces inspired by her process, I’ll be able to settle down a little. The thing is, I have waited for this DVD for months, and it did not disappoint. Creative Catalyst has done its usual superb job of filming and editing. I have tried DVDs from ot

If You Think Color is Sweet, Check Out this Shop Full of Eye Candy!

Colour Lovers is a virtual feast of colour, palettes and patterns. Much of it is downloadable. At this posting, there are 162,765 Lovers (that would be Colour Lovers) sharing 1,638,930 Colors in 652,541 Palettes. That’s quite an array of choices. If you are working on some artwork and your color combinations lack the panache you want, do a color search! A recent post featured turquoise, which never fails to grab my attention. Apparently it is the color that represents water,

    Find patterns EVERYWHERE 2

On a previous post, I showed a design that I created from a digital pic of ice on the table on our front porch. I use Photoshop Elements because it is easy, fun, affordable, and meets my current needs. I photograph paper towels, dried paint, just about anything that catches my fancy, and take it into Photoshop Elements. As an artist who uses collage, I am constantly needing and using what I call “art papers.” Because of the ease and FUN of this process, I have many MANY exclu

    Find patterns EVERYWHERE !

We have had so much snow this year, and a few weeks ago I took a picture of some ice, clinging to the table, like a small, shimmering pool, on our front porch. It glistened in the sun, but my tiny camera was not able to capture it in a way that satisfied me. However, after some Photoshop Elements manipulation, I ended up with a lot of “cool” designs. Here are two of them., which I have already added to a recent art piece. #findpatterns #PhotoshopElements #patterns #findpatter

    Create Your Own Designer Fabric

After my painted fabric was dry, I started putting combinations together, often in surprising ways. Or, I could extend the process by adding new layers of paint, stamping, stenciling. When I was satisfied with the fabrics, and the way they went together, I often found myself ripping and tearing instead of carefully cutting. Or cutting freehand, without a pattern. Suddenly, cloth had become the starting point for my quilts, and it was my cloth. Let me tell you a little about G

Compulsive Doodling and the Patterns They Can Reveal . . .

It doesn’t matter how boring the meeting, how long the wait at the airport or doctor’s office, as long as I have a couple of good black pens and a small pad of paper, I am HAPPY! I love to doodle, and I have binders full of doodle designs to attest for that fact. At one of the workshops I attended, the instructor, trained as a fine artist, was appalled to hear the word doodling: drawing or sketching would be the correct terms. However, there is an effective psychological fact
