    “Found” Symbols

    A favorite activity is to grab pieces of my art and find symbols in them. If symbol seems a rather elevated term, just find marks (which are probably symbols we haven’t figured out the meaning for yet). They can be traced, flipped, enlarged, darkened, put into groups, shrunk. It doesn’t matter how simple they are ~ as you keep collecting these marks/symbols, you will start recognizing patterns and themes in your work where they emerge again and again.     More lacy snow patterns

    The footprints in the snow  just outside our back door called to me: Snowy footprints on the patio I was attracted to the grid aspect, the marks made by boots, the soft mounds of snow. This will be a great beginning for playing in Photoshop Elements, as I am crazy about geometric designs. There was a time when symmetry was considered the closest a form could come to perfection.     Fun foam stamp tutorial

    Just for fun, I thought I would explain the fun foam stamp process step by step. It’s good practice for me, and I am learning something new every time I do this. It’s such a great, simple way to add pattern and personal marks to a piece of cloth, or paper. And extreme accuracy is not necessary, although you could certainly tighten everything up completely if you slowed down, cut the pieces very carefully, and used ink instead of fabric paint to print the image.
