    Paying Forward

We can see the world as a doomed place, bound for destruction and full of people who only consider the bottom line. However, if we allow it, we will also notice and experience the many acts of kindness that are extended to us, as gifts. Sticking our heads in the sand and pretending everything is goodness and light may be refusing to face “reality,” but putting a bag over our heads and denying there is any goodness and light is equally delusional. Sunshine and shadow. Love and

    Examining Your Belief System

No matter how dark our lives become, each of us has a light at the center of our being. The question is, do we open the blinds or keep them tightly drawn? That depends, to a large extent, on the belief system we have adopted. The crucial question is, are you willing to examine that? Playing With Light

Once again, I have put together two iPad images, a photo and a painting, to create Playing With Light. Playing With Light It’s at times like this that I wish they were larger, less pixelated images, but it’s the idea and the vision that count. I am literally playing with light on an iPad. #CWWOL20120503 #iPadArt #light #playing

    The Blast of a Trumpet

. I found this quote, today, on Leslie Avon Miller’s blog. Leslie consistently has words and images to inspire, uplift, challenge, teach. Make your own Bible. Select and collect all the words and sentences that in all your readings have been to you like the blast of a trumpet. …………..~ Ralph Waldo Emerson I could hardly breathe. That idea makes my entire being stand at attention. In Such Bright Company If you hear a voice within you say “you cannot paint,” then by all means p

    A SAD State of Affairs

. I belive that if I can just be patient, things will get better, she said. Better than what? he asked, genuinely concerned. I didn’t know you were feeling so discouraged. That’s just it, she admitted. I’m not sure why I am in such a malaise, but I am. Could it be the time of year? Less light can lead to seasonal affective disorder. He hoped so. He didn’t want it to be his lack of attention lately. He was following a crazy schedule. Maybe, she muttered, wondering why he ran o

    Have You Settled Down ?

Oh, I hope not. I hope you are not settled down, settled period, opting for the safe road ~ the worn and scuffed, overly travelled path. Don't Settle GO for the light ~  for the crazy and different and risky. Let yourself SHINE! Take your creativity off the leash and chase it to a place you’ve never been before. #risky #path #shine #overlyworn #settleddown #creativity #worn #settled #scuffed #CWWOL20111011 #light

It’s Not the Speed of Your Thoughts That Counts

Our thoughts are constantly streaming through our minds, unless we have discovered a way to enter the pure silence of being. Streaming Through These thoughts can literally imprison us in a very small space that only makes room for our own ego and little else. Einstein had a larger vision: A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest a kind

    A Blaze of Light

Hallelujah, by Leonard Cohen, is one of those songs where the lyrics always thrill me to the core, especially if K.D. Lang is singing it. Remember this verse? You say I took the name in vain I don’t even know the name But if I did, well really, what’s it to you? There’s a blaze of light in every word It doesn’t matter which you heard The holy or the broken Hallelujah That’s how I try to write ~ with a blaze of light in every word. But it only works if the words come from the

    Garment of Light

Wearing a Garment of Light is a symbol of receiving knowledge. If the garment is made available to you, welcome it. Breathe. Receive. Garment of Light Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. …….~ Martin Luther King, Jr. #MartinLutherKing #CWWOL20110819 #justice #breathe #Jr #destiny #knowledge #light #garment

    Tell No Lies

Lies are counterproductive. Truth does not feel comfortable with being twisted, and will eventually straighten itself out. This will lead to exposure of the original lies, and the fallout of hurt all around. Even if the lies have not yet been deciphered, the liar’s spirit already bears the telltale wounds. The basic elements of spirit are love and truth ~ which cast a light that exposes lies. This is neither cruel  nor judgemental: it is rather a cleansing that allows the exp

There is something so ethereal about dappled light. Dappled Light 1 Dappled Light 2 I noticed the light through my front window, casting mottled spots upon the sidewalk, and tore out to “capture” it. #cement #CWWOL20110608b #mottled #concrete #dappledlight #ethereal #light #CWWOL20110608a

    Seemingly Serene

Before I went to work today (running a school library), I took a quick look at my mail and saw the notice of a comment from my talented friend, Elena Ray. This prompted a visit to her site, where one of her recent works, Sacred Architecture, burned its way into my retinas and my brain. I kept seeing after images all day. In between class visits to the library, where I sang “Aiken Drum” and assembled a silly man in the moon out of pictures of food (much to the delight of my st

    A Useful Exercise

I took the painting Suspended and made a little “value map” of it. I did it with quick, inaccurate strokes and  a light, dark and medium value. Suspended Suspended value map 1 I fiddled with it a bit. Suspended value map 2 Then I combined some multiples of version 2, and called it “Row Houses.” Row Houses I like the energy and simplicity of these 3 “maps.” I can see using them as an underpainting and exploring with other colors on top of them. Or I could translate the 3 value

What light through yonder window breaks?

I played around with the stitched piece from my last post in Photoshop Elements, so it’s gone from a painting, to a stitched piece, to a digital image. It gives me great pleasure to take a simple painting into an array of different mediums. #window #PhotoshopElements #light #digital #digitalpainting #turquoise

    Que Sera, Sera

This is the piece that has been my wrestling partner for some time now. I wanted to use very simple shapes, and employ two layers. I also gave myself the challenge of trying to represent trees absorbing light, a concept that fascinates me and stands for the human yearning for “light” or insight. The piece is not finished yet. The lettering, which I just painted last night, will become something other than white. I’m not sure if I will add anything to the plain “borders” of th

    Cloak Yourself in Dreams

Courtney Putnam from The Healing Nest wrote a post about manifestation that I consider a superb way to start stimulating my thinking for the summer. Actually, this is timeless “advice,” and Courtney offers it with such disarming humility and humour that one could almost miss how expertly it is written. Courtney makes a salient connection between the “intangible” imagination where our dreams and intentions reside, and the way our hands, our whole physical being, in fact,  help
