    Mathematically Precise and Diaphanous

. I am grinning as I think of people puzzling over my blog post title, but it will soon become clear. I am still on a crochet binge. I started our with a 1 mm crochet hook, and realized I would need approximately 220 squares to complete my small project. I then switched to a 3.50 mm hook. You can see the larger square should require considerably fewer motifs to complete my crochet garment. It also has a softer hand, which means it will drape better in the final analysis. Do I

    Engaged

January, 2011, I decided to join the Sketchbook Challenge. I did so, quite frankly, with reluctance. Why? I am driven to pick up on and follow threads, clues, intuitions that capture my attention and await expression. Whatever I may have joined, because I was drawn to the energy and vision of another, falls by the wayside as I obey my inner response to these promptings. Here we are, though, on the edge of November, and I have managed to send a number of entries into the month

    Very Simple Stencil Work

Stencils are a huge subject. They can be every size from gigantic to miniscule, and are created in so many ways. For my purposes, I just wanted a small, quick stencil, so I cut a spontaneous design out of card stock. Quick cut paper stencil I printed out one of my collage papers, leaving a large white border. Blue Square I dabbed paint onto it twice, using the stencil. Then I added lines with dimensional paint, and stamped on it a bit. Stenciled and dimensional paint 1 This w

Is My Backside My Best Side?

Don’t answer that question. I just really like the way my stitched papers look on the back. For instance, this one from Seemingly Serene looks like the following pic: Mag painting 1 back The stitched piece from Repeating Myself  is also followed by the back: Mag painting 2 back Those backs will be terrific to paint on. I have used them to do monoprints as well. #monoprints #collage #Artjournal #back #CWWOL20110604ba #handmade #backside #stitch #stitched #CWWOL20110604b

The inclusions formerly known as doodads

A selection of air dry clay inclusions I love making what I used to cavalierly call doodads. However, in the interest of sounding like a professional artiste, I now refer to them as inclusions. Yesterday, I made quite a few of these out of black air-dry clay. They may be hard to view properly, but once I have painted them, and added a little metallic sparkle, they will be quite presentable. Look for them in future mixed media art quilts. I also produced a number of stamps, th

    Doodles Into Handmade Stamps

Now I’ve turned a few doodles into stamps. The one with the blue smudges was used on the fabric below (the small, partial, turquoise patterns). Here is another stamp, and the scrap piece of fabric I stamped onto. I’d love it if you’d share with me how you make your stamps. These are pieces of fun foam sheets (the kiddie stuff) glued onto a base of the same material; the most playful were the ones produced very quickly with scrap pieces. I’ve always thought I should carve stam
