Lilies, Nests, Floating Homes and Longboarders (with bananas)

I visited Granville Island this week and was literally stopped in my tracks when I came upon a painting by artist Janie Lockwood. I saw Connecting and quickly motioned my sister to gaze upon its loveliness as well. The online pic of this painting does not do it justice, of course. The detail and texture are subtle, and must be seen “live” to be fully appreciated. As Janie articulates in her artist statement: My focus has been to emphasize on the beauty of nature. I do this by

The L-A-B Arrives by Mail to Me

This week I received a package in the mail from Dayna Collins of Alley Art Studio. The package contained my little art buddy (LAB). I have not named the LAB yet, nor decided on gender. Here is my challenge: 1) art it up 2) alter it beyond recognition 3) take a photo/photos of the little guy going on a field trip, 4) think of something Dayna hasn’t thought of 5) a combination of all of the above! I thought Dayna might enjoy seeing that her LAB arrived safe and sound. I’ve been

All Your Eggs in One Basket 2 Egg Idioms: Egged: to throw eggs (or insults) at. A good egg: a good person. Egging someone on: inciting someone to do something. Egg on your face: humiliation Lay an egg: fail at som

    Wild Desire

Standing amidst her long limbed sisters, she was certain that if she was tapped a glowing sap would flow from her being. It would taste like contentment, with a lingering note of wild desire. 17.75” (l) x 24” The figure in this paper quilt may appear far too serene to be harboring wild desire. But by becoming one with her “sister trees,” she has fulfilled her desire and reached a state of contentment. Her hands, a nest in themselves, cradle a bird’s nest, which holds three

    Paper Quilts! I’m smitten!

Something happened to me at that Fran Skiles workshop while we were cutting, ripping, burning, painting, inking, monoprinting, gluing, crumpling, folding, stitching, and who knows what else to paper: I FELL IN LOVE WITH PAPER, all over again! How could I forget my childhood sweetheart? The one I cozied up to any chance I got, and produced pictures with my trusty Laurentian Pencil Crayons (I received a new box every September). I have WAY more stuff to use on paper now! I cann
