    The Truth Is Rarely Pure

I make art like I live. I live artfully and create art that reflects my life. Art is at times my confessional, and sometimes a hallelujah chorus. It expresses my sorrow and my joy. At the altar of art, I lay down my fears and toss my exultations like rose petals. It teaches me about myself, and not always gently. However, I still consider it my salvation because it does not lie. It tells the truth, and I have to see it. Sooner or later. Confession In a controversy the instant

Buddha Blue Against the Greens It was great fun showing my grandkids my art apps and drawing together on the iPad. Buddha On the Rocks

We went to see our kids in Prince Edward County today, and this little blue guy greeted us. He made me smile, both because I received an instant feeling of calm when I spied him perched peacefully on the rocks, and due to the fact that my ever active granddaughter paused, closed her eyes and bowed in front of him. I considered it a charming acknowledgement that she felt the same. I doubt if there is a drink by the name of Buddha on the Rocks, but if it affected people the way

    Ideas That Keep Growing

There are some ideas that won’t leave you alone. They demand your attention, are always coming back even if you try to ignore them. And once they know you are thinking about them, they are unstoppable. There is no denying their growth. They fill your mind, your heart, they take over your life. If you haven’t had at least one of these kinds of ideas yet, hope and pray you will. It’s incredibly exciting to be part of an idea that takes on its own being and gets way bigger than

Take the Opportunity To Go Within

Each of us was formed within our mother’s womb. Our spirit formed within our being. Our thoughts form within our minds. With all that has been formed within, shouldn’t we take the opportunity, make the time, to go there? Formed Within Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without. ……..~ Buddha Everyone who wills can hear the inner voice. It is within everyone. ……..~Mahatma Gandhi Man is a universe within himself. ……..~Bob Marley The only journey is the one within. ……..~Rain

Open Your Hands to the World

. Love Knot It’s too easy to just play it safe, to try and keep things quiet and serene. The spirit feels caged by such an attitude. Mary Oliver understands this. Spring This morning two birds fell down the side of the maple tree like a tuft of fire a wheel of fire a love knot out of control as they plunged through the air pressed against each other and I thought how I meant to live a quiet life how I meant to live a life of mildness and meditation tapping the careful

It’s Not the Speed of Your Thoughts That Counts

Our thoughts are constantly streaming through our minds, unless we have discovered a way to enter the pure silence of being. Streaming Through These thoughts can literally imprison us in a very small space that only makes room for our own ego and little else. Einstein had a larger vision: A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest a kind

    Love Persists

The heart is on my mind these days, for very personal reasons. And so, it keeps emerging in my artwork, beating its steady beat. And, it keeps reminding me to be mindful of the fact that despite all that we might find wrong with the world, and our lives ~ if we choose to use our precious energy to pursue such thoughts ~ love persists. Stay attuned  . . . .  to your heart’s messages, to the many examples of love constantly being presented for your delectation. This is my simpl
